Setting
The setting of the the book "A long way gone" takes place in Sierra Leone in 1993- 1997. New York City in 1998 which used to be a loving,respectful and gentle placed filled with villages.It first took place in Mattru Jong the hometown of Ishmael Beah . There were many poor families in the village , but they all lived like a family, respecting each other. That all changed when the war broke out. No one trusted each other. Innocent people getting killed in such a burial ways. The narrator of the book is about his expirences in the war, therefore it is based on a true story. This book has touched many people, reading the paintful and sarrow life this young solider.Throughout the book Ishmael's been running from the war, fighting to survive and getting serperated from his friends and family. Later finds himself joing the army to survive and becomes a cold killer towards the rebels at the age of 15.

The main character also the narrator of the book is Ishmael Beah, an innocent boy who was dragged into war. Losing the ones he loved, family and friends and eventually was forced into the army to survive. He luckily and succesfully escaping the war. Barley getting through the obsicales , the mirgrains and the depression he's had throught the war. Before the war years he loved doing what ever boy loved to do have fun and live life. He loved rap music, dancing and shakespear. He lived with his older brother junior and his dad. His parents were divorced which had an impact on him, not being able to see his mother and little brother who lives with her. He was loveable and respectful towards everyone, but war and joining the army has changed him.
Esther is a nurse in the rehabilitation and she becomes important to Ishmael when he needed someone at the most. She help him get his childhood habits back like listening to music again andjust doing the things he loved before the war broke out . She helped him start fresh, to gain trust and to refere her has his sister.
Uncle Tommy is Ishmael's father's brother and later on becomes Ishmael's foster parent. He helps him get through the memoirs of the war and the events he's expierenced . Uncle Tommy provides Ishmael with all the love and careness he had missed out on through his childhood at war.Although he was poor, he provided him with shelter , food and love.

There is that war is hell, there is always hope and love although everything is gone.The way Ishmael expresses his expierence and life at war, it sent a great message to the readers, letting them know how brutal war really was.Through all the event that occured in Ishmael's life he found his way back to happyness with the help of others
